“If we are to realize the magnitude of the aims achieved by humanity, and envisage those of the future, we should meditate on the various stages of human evolution, study the science from which it takes its name and scrutinize its history.”

History of the MRC
The Montessori Research Collective is a collaborative network of researchers focused on Montessori education. Originally named the Montessori Research Working Group, it began convening annually at retreats in 2015 (except during the COVID-19 pandemic), thanks to the leadership of Dr. Angela Murray, members of the AMS Research Committee, Nancy Lindeman, and the generosity of funders such as Sorenson Legacy Foundation, Brady Education Foundation, and Wend Collective. In 2024, the group underwent strategic planning and reorganized as the Montessori Research Collective.
The group has been instrumental in several key achievements, including:
- Producing multiple collaborative research publications
- Establishing the AERA Montessori Education Special Interest Group (SIG)
- Developing the Montessori Logic Model to inform Montessori research
- Creating tools like the Teacher Questionnaire of Montessori Practices, the Measure of Montessori Implementation, Montessori Bibliography Online, and the Montessori Coaching Tool
- Publishing the Bloomsbury Handbook of Montessori Education
